FAQS

Q? WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A FRAMED AND SEMI-FRAMELESS SHOWER DOOR?

A. A framed shower door has metal around the perimeter of every piece of glass leaving none of the edges exposed. It is more durable and less fragile making it perfect for a guest bathroom and safer for a kids bathtub or shower. A semi-frameless shower door has a more contemporary open look with only metal around the perimeter of your shower stall leaving the door itself and glass to glass corners completely frameless. The exposed edges are high polished by the manufacturer making them smooth to the touch. The door closes against clear rubber seals to prevent leakage.

Q? WHY DON’T YOU OFFER FULLY FRAMELESS SHOWER DOORS?

A. A heavy glass fully frameless shower door has no adjustments for out-of-plumb wall conditions. They require to be attached to structural support in the walls and can’t be installed on a fiberglass surround making it a limited option for most people. Fully frameless shower doors are designed more for appearance than functionality, with minimum rubber seals there is a much higher chance for water to leak out into the bathroom especially in smaller shower stalls. There is also a higher risk of injury due to fewer anchor points that hold the extreme weight of the thick glass.

Q? HOW MUCH TIME DOES THE SHOWER DOOR INSTALLATION ITSELF ACTUALLY TAKE?

A. Most shower doors take only an hour or two to install but could take longer depending on the amount of additional glass panels that are needed. It is best to wait 24 hours after installation is complete before using the shower to allow the silicone to fully cure.

Q? WHAT DO YOU USE TO SEAL THE SHOWER DOOR TO THE STALL?

A. In most situations we use high grade clear silicone that inhibits mold growth. If needed, we can color match the silicone to the frame’s finish or your shower stall to not take away from the beauty and elegance of the new shower door.

Q? HOW DO I CARE FOR AND CLEAN MY NEW SHOWER DOOR?

A. To keep the glass free of potentially damaging water spots, we recommend using a squeegee or dry towel after each use. Keeping the glass dry is the simplest and fastest way to avoid water spots and mineral deposit build up on your new shower enclosure. Never use scouring pads or acid based cleaners. A Non-Ammonia based glass cleaner or detergent is the only cleaning product that is safe to use on shower doors and won’t damage the glass or metal surface.

Q? WHAT CAN I DO TO STOP MY OLD SHOWER DOOR FROM LEAKING?

A. The first thing to do is check for any missing silicone sealant around the perimeter of the shower door. Adding a fresh layer of silicone on both the inside and outside can help reduce possible leak points. Next, check the rubber seals around the door and the bottom sweep for cracks or wear. Replacement parts can be hard to find especially for older brands of shower doors that have gone out of business (no longer exist). Replacing the entire shower door with a newer model that has a modern design and new weather stripping is your next option that is guaranteed to stop the water leaks.

Q? IS THERE ANY WAY TO CLEAN A SHOWER DOOR THAT HAS TURNED CLOUDY OVER TIME?

A. Unfortunalty, this can not be removed with normal solvents or scrubbing and requires a full replacement. Water spots and cloudiness is most noticable on clear glass. It is caused by hard water that leaves behind mineral deposits if left to air dry that permanently etches the glass. Wiping the glass with a squeegee or towel to keep the shower door dry after each use is the best way to prevent hard water stains from happening again in the future.

Q? MY GLASS SHOWER DOOR SUDDENLY SHATTERED WHILE NO ONE WAS USING IT. WHAT HAPPENED?

A. Glass shower doors are particularly tempered out of safety material which does not break under everyday circumstances. Due to the high pressure during the tempering process, stress is added inside the glass. Though very uncommon, this reaction can cause it to break years later without any external force exerted on it.
